Where the word ava comes from

Ava is short, old and uncertain. It may be a form of the Germanic avi, whose sense is lost, or a variant of Eve, and a ninth century abbess, Ava of Denain, carried it long before it was fashionable.

Ava Gardner made it a film name. A two syllable palindrome with no awkward letters says easily in any language, and that is most of why it came back.
