Where the word beloved comes from
Beloved is a plain English construction, be plus loved, where the old prefix be meant thoroughly. It appears in wills, letters and scripture wherever English wanted the fullest form of the word.
It has never shortened well, and that is its charm. Three syllables, read slowly, addressed to one person.
