Where the word honeymoon comes from
Honeymoon is sixteenth-century English, honey for the sweetness and moon for the suspicion it would wane. The word began as a wry joke and outlived its own cynicism.
Couples who hang it are contradicting the etymology on purpose, which is the romantic reading.
