Where the word james comes from
James is the English form of the Latin Iacomus, itself from Jacob, the Hebrew Ya'aqov, usually explained as holding the heel. Two apostles carried it, and so did the king who put his name on the 1611 Bible.
It led the American list for thirteen straight years in the mid twentieth century and has never been far from the top since.
