About the Fern Sprigs design
Ragged as a torn paper collar, the skirt hangs just below the cap and gives this tall mushroom its loosest, most lively detail. Above it, a black dome carries a scatter of white spots over a pale band of underside. The slender stem is drawn only in outline and runs down into a dark tuft of grass blades. On either side a leafy sprig curves outward, each leaf a plump black teardrop, so the ferns frame the stem like a pair of open hands.
