Where the Perez name comes from
Perez is son of Pedro, or of Pero in older Spanish, and Pedro comes from the Latin Petrus, meaning a rock or a stone. Peres and Pires in Portuguese, Peris in Catalan, Peters in German, Petrovic in Serbo-Croatian, Petrescu in Romanian and Peterson in English are the same relationship expressed in different languages. There is a separate Perez that is Hebrew, from perets. So a Perez family can trace to Castile or to Hebrew, depending which line it came down.
