About the Perry sign
One sign, three ways to read it: Perry, The Perrys, or Perry Family.
The family plural of Perry is a plain -s, so it reads The Perrys.

Where the Perry name comes from
Perry has several distinct origins that have nothing to do with each other. In England it is a topographic name from the Old English pyrige, meaning pear tree, and it belonged to whoever lived beside one. In Wales the same spelling arrived by a completely different road, as a patronymic shortened from "ap Harry", son of Harry, which also gave the surname Parry. A third line runs through Norman French perrieur, a quarry, which would have marked out a quarryman.
The surname turns up in the record from the late 16th century in villages near Colchester in Essex, among them Lexden and Copford. Later it absorbed families who had carried other names entirely: Portuguese immigrants to the United States, especially in Massachusetts and the San Francisco Bay Area, Americanized Pereira to Perry, helped along by the fact that Pereira also means pear tree. The Italian surname Perri, which traces back to Peter, was often Americanized the same way.
