Where the Rojas name comes from
Rojas is a Spanish surname, the feminine plural of rojo, the Spanish word for red. The word goes back through Old Spanish roxo to Latin russeus and the older russus. An archaic spelling of the same name, Roxas, was used in the Philippines.
In the Philippines the surname arrived through the Catálogo alfabético de apellidos, and it passed from Spanish into both Cebuano and Tagalog. Rojas is found throughout the Spanish-speaking world, especially in Latin America. In the 2010 United States Census it ranked as the 285th most common surname in the country, carried by 108,421 people.
