About the Mailbox design
The flagpole does not stop at the box. It drops straight through the top edge and hangs as a free stub inside the opening, ending in midair a third of the way down. Above, the flag is a solid slab far wider than the pole is thick, and the box's top edge picks up only on the far side of the pole, leaving that corner notched away.
