About the Layers in a Dish design
Squat and broad, this cake sits down on a shallow dish whose flared rim reaches past it on both sides. One wavy line runs across the middle, splitting the cake into two even layers like a ribbon of filling. On top perches a domed cherry with a flat base, its long stem slanting off to the right like the handle of a little lever. The thick line keeps every corner soft, from the cake's rounded shoulders to the tapered base of the dish.
