Where the word seek comes from
Seek is the Old English secan, and its family reaches to the Latin sagire, to perceive keenly. Sagacious is a distant cousin, and so is ransack by way of Old Norse.
The root is about noticing rather than searching, which puts the emphasis where it belongs.
