Where the word winter comes from
Winter is the Old English winter, possibly from an ancient root meaning wet, which would make it simply the rain season named honestly. The old Germanic calendar counted years in winters survived.
Counting years in winters gives the word its weight. On a seasonal shelf it is the quiet opposite of summer.
