Where the word wish comes from
Wish is the Old English wyscan, from the ancient root of desire that also produced the name Venus. To wish and to be winsome grew from the same seed.
The word covers birthday candles, wells and stars, all the small ceremonies of wanting. A nursery or mantel takes it naturally.
