Where the word zen comes from
Zen traveled far to get short: the Sanskrit dhyana, meditation, became the Chinese chan, then the Japanese zen, shedding syllables at each border.
English uses it for the calm the practice aims at. A bathroom or yoga corner hangs the destination on the wall.
