About the Cherry on a Stand design
The cake here is mostly solid black, with a top edge that swells and dips like a soft pillow. Across its middle runs one white band whose lower edge rolls in scallops, like filling squeezed out between two layers. The cherry is an open ring with a short upright stem, pressed down into the top edge of the cake. Below, the plate, the slim pedestal and the flared foot are all hollow outlines, light against the heavy cake they hold up.
